Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
Here's what you'll need:
- 3 pounds of fresh, ripe tomatoes
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of dried basil
- 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Start off by washing your fresh tomatoes, and cutting them into quarters. Remove the stems and any blemishes.
- In a large saucepan, heat up the olive oil over a medium heat. Add in the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add in the quartered tomatoes, sugar, dried basil, and dried oregano. Give it a good stir and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer away for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
- Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, take it off the heat and let it cool down a bit.
- Once it's cooled down, you can either blend it in a blender or use an immersion blender to make it into a smooth sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve over your favorite pasta.
